Finding Legal Counseling and Representation
There are many valid methods for finding a qualified lawyer to review and handle your case. These range from
indications of a medical or insurance specialty in advertisements (many times an indicator to the success
and profitability for the attorney), to searches for the specific diagnosis along with the term "attorney" or "lawyer", and direct references.
Most attorneys are in business to achieve financial rewards, success in the courtroom, or a certain level of notoriety.
These traits benefit their clients because their mutual success is so closely linked. If the attorney will work on a
"contingent fee" basis (percentage of any award) you can expect them to maximize the judgment to your benefit.
Some Questions to Ask Your Prospective Attorney
- What judgments or settlements have they received in similar cases?
- What judgments or settlements have they received against the particular insurance company or other entity?
- How many cases similar to yours have they been involved in?
- What resources does the attorney have available to make a scientific case?
- How are the attorney fees paid?
- What timing can you expect from preparation to judgment or settlement?
- Does the attorney provide other services to help with handling the estate (wills, trusts, etc)?
